Allround Ships Electronical Engineer

THE POSITION

For our sea-going fleet, we are looking for a Ships Electronical Engineer to work on a 5-weeks on/off rotation. You will be working on one of our modern vessels, such as a hopper dredger, cutter dredger, cable laying vessel, fall pipe vessel, or a jack-up wind installation vessel. You will encounter a wide range of electrical and automation systems to keep you challenged. Working closely with the Chief Engineer, you will maintain and optimize the electrical systems on board, ensuring that the ship’s administration related to the electrical systems is up to date and compliant with Van Oord standards, such as the ship's logbook and daily reports.

YOUR IMPACT

As a Ships Electronical Engineer, you will be responsible for the electrical processes on board. You prepare for major maintenance and modifications by drawing up a modifications list and discussing it with the Chief Engineer. Depending on the size and complexity of the equipment, you may work solo or with a colleague in the same field of expertise. Your will:

  • Carry out and being co-responsible for regular maintenance of electrical installations 
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairs
  • Help prepare logbooks and technical documentation
  • Participate in toolbox meetings and safety exercises
  • Work according to international regulations and Van Oord procedures 
  • Apply your knowledge of electrical voltage systems (up to 6kV), PLCs and network systems
  • Show interest or gain experience in drives and automation systems on board

ABOUT YOU

You are flexible, stress-resistant, and able to work independently. You bring strong technical skills and are a team player who thrives in a challenging environment. You have: 

  • An intermediate or higher vocational degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, and preferably a seaman's book, valid medical certificate and STCW Basic Safety certificate
  • At least 3 years of experience as an Electrician or in a similar role, preferably in maritime or industrial automation
  • Solid knowledge of network systems, PLCs, communication/survey/navigation systems and remote system connections
  • Specific knowledge of equipment such as ROVs, offshore cranes, cable laying systems or LNG is a plus; an ETO license is an advantage, but nog required
  • Permission to work within EU countries
