Geological Engineer

Do you want to implement geological datasets from across the world in real projects? As a Geological Engineer at Van Oord, your work shapes the way we install cables and pipelines on some of the world’s most complex projects. You work with large geotechnical and geophysical datasets, analysing and interpretating them and turn them into smart solutions. Whether you are supporting tenders or execution, your insights power real progress — for our vessels, our teams and the energy transition.

THE POSITION

As a Geological Engineer for Cables and Pipelines you will be involved with the interpretation of complex geological, geotechnical, and geophysical data, which is used in 3D models created with in-house software. You can be involved in the organization and execution of marine soil investigation projects including geophysical surveys. For the execution of these tasks, world-wide travelling can be part of the job. The results of your work will feed into the installation methods for subsea cables, foundations, or other offshore infrastructure.

YOUR IMPACT

In addition to the geological framework the implementation of detailed models into a Burial Assessment Study for Offshore Wind Farms will be part of your responsibility. This includes the incorporation of work methods, trenching production calculations for cable burial using in-house modelling software and supporting projects and tender teams. You will be challenged to innovate cable installation and burial methods and be part of the digital transition the department is undergoing.

  • Interpreting of large geotechnical and geophysical datasets.
  • Supporting tender and projects teams with geological knowledge.
  • Determining efficient strategies to install cables and pipelines in the seabed.
  • Develop Burial Assessment Studies for cable installation projects.

Your workplace

The position is based in our Gorinchem office, with the option to work from the Rotterdam office part time. You will be part of the Production team in the Productline Cables and Pipelines within the Tendering and Engineering (T&E) Department.  The team is diverse, with an open and informal atmosphere. You work together with many stakeholders across technical, commercial can operational disciplines. The position is open to starters and people with experience.

ABOUT YOU

You are proactive, analytical and you want to develop as a Geological Engineer having a key role in one or more tenders/projects. You see a challenge in translating geology to engineering solutions and you have strong skills to communicate this to colleagues and clients. Next to that you possess:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (Applied) Earth Sciences, with affinity for hydraulic engineering;
  • The ambition to develop yourself as a Geological Engineer who acts as a sparring partner for the Tender and Project teams;
  • Good communication skills, independent, taking initiative and work accurately;
  • Willingness to go abroad or offshore when required.

WE OFFER

We offer you a position in which you will have an important contribution to our mission 'building a better world for future generations'. In addition, we offer you:

  • A salary that matches your responsibilities and experience;
  • Travel allowance (€0.31 per km) and home office allowance (€2,45 per day);
  • 32 leave days per year;
  • Variable bonus;

  • Collective health insurance (optional);
  • Flexible working from home policy, 2 days a week when working on a full-time basis;
  • Extensive learning and (personal) development possibilities, including a wide range of online courses via Goodhabitz;
  • You can join communities, like Young Van Oord, Van Oord Women and the Van Oord staff association;
  • We organise several (sport) events, e.g. winter sport, weekend of sailing, cycling and a motorcycle tour.
