The position

For the Ship Management Department (SMD), we are looking for a Project Controller to strengthen our Finance & Control team of SMD. The position is based in Rotterdam. 

SMD is responsible for managing all Van Oord equipment, consisting of approx. 70 main production vessels and a large number of auxiliary equipment. Moreover, SMD is responsible for an extensive fleet  newbuilding program and managing 3 worldwide yards. We are responsible for all financial and reporting related issues in close co-operation with the Business Units Dredging & Infra, Offshore Energy and with the Corporate Finance & Control team.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide valuable insight for our Ship Management Department (SMD) and challenge them at the same time. You will drive strategy and support operational and data-driven decision-making and to ensure compliance and effective controls in an international setting focused on our large projects. 


Your impact 

You, together with the other team members, advise SMD management on all financial aspects including opportunities and risks (e.g., finance, cash flow, currencies, budgets).


Your responsibilities are: 

  • Periodic reporting within SMD on equipment repair budgets and annual maintenance budgets;
  • Drive monthly performance against target and strategy and take pro-active measures if required;
  • Provide management information to the SMD management team enabling data-driven decision making;
  • Play an importation role in the transition to a data-driven organization;
  • Prepare and challenge financial presentations, reports and overviews.

Attention to detail and ability to drive process to completion are very important and you have a natural drive and commitment to liaise with business stakeholders. Further, you have the following competencies:

  • Effective team player with strong communicative skills;
  • Accurate, analytical and decisive;
  • Digitally savvy;
  • Bachelor degree in business administration or economics;
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in an international business environment;
  • Relevant experience in a project environment is a preference;
  • Fluent in English, verbal as well as written.
