Crane Operator

At Van Oord, you won't just be operating a crane. You'll work on board state-of-the-art offshore vessels operating at sea on complex projects around the world. As a Crane Operator, you will play an important role in maintaining safe vessel operations while building experience and competence.

THE POSITION

As a Crane Operator, you are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel's cranes and lifting equipment. You carry out lifting operations in line with project requirements, procedures, and safety regulations. Working closely with the deck crew and the bridge, you contribute to the safe execution of daily operations.

YOUR IMPACT

As a Crane Operator, you contribute to safe and efficient operations by proactively identifying risks and coordinating lifting activities with other departments. Through careful planning, clear communication, and accurate record keeping, you help maintain compliance with safety, environmental and statutory requirements. Your responsibilities include:

  • Operating cranes and mission equipment safely, including in challenging conditions at sea;
  • Planning and coordinating lifting operations with the deck department;
  • Identifying and reporting operational risks and improvement opportunities;
  • Maintaining operational, safety and statutory records;
  • Supporting less experienced crew and promoting a safe onboard working environment.

ABOUT YOU

You are reliable, committed to safety, and motivated to build a long-term maritime career. You communicate effectively, work well within a team, and stay alert to what is happening around you. In addition, you have:

  • A valid Sparrow 3 certificate, valid STCW certification and the required offshore and seagoing documents (a must);
  • Relevant experience as a Crane Operator in the offshore, maritime or heavy lifting industry, with a minimum of 100 tons on a sailing vessel;
  • Experience in lifting operations in challenging sea conditions, including heavy swells and vessel motions.
  • The ability to inspect lifting equipment and identify operational risks;
  • Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
