At Van Oord, you won't just be keeping the engine room running. You'll work on board state-of-the-art dredging vessels operating on complex projects around the world. As a 2nd Engineer, you will play an important role in maintaining safe and reliable vessel operations while building the experience and competence needed to develop towards senior ranks.

THE POSITION

As a 2nd Engineer, you are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the technical installations during your watch. Working closely with your team and Chief Engineer, you will gain valuable experience in internationally operating dredging vessels while further developing your professional and leadership skills.

YOUR IMPACT

Through diagnostics, maintenance planning, and coordination with other teams, you help maintain compliance with safety, environmental and statutory requirements. Your responsibilities include:

  • Manage the main technical installations during your watch and supervise your team on duty;
  • Plan, delegate and monitor corrective and preventive maintenance, ensuring it is executed safely and on schedule;
  • Perform system diagnostics and troubleshooting, and guide less experienced colleagues in solving technical problems on board;
  • Coordinate maintenance work with the nautical and operational teams;
  • Coach and support less experienced crew and set the standard for a safe working environment on board.

You will be supported by experienced colleagues who are committed to helping you develop your career, expand your responsibilities, and prepare for future promotions. Our vessels combine advanced technology, professional standards and strong teamwork, creating an environment where you can continue to grow as a professional.
