Van Oord works on complex projects in the fields of maritime infrastructure, energy transition and climate adaptation. These projects attract attention. From media, from stakeholders and from society. In this role you stand at the heart of that dynamic field.
You are responsible for managing media relations and developing news driven content. You work closely with the Advisor Editorial, the Editorial Board and Business Unit communications. You translate strategy into stories that connect with the outside world. This role does not focus on first line spokesperson duties. Instead you operate strategically, advise leadership and ensure our messages are sharp, timely and relevant.
Your work strengthens our reputation and builds trust in everything we do. You create clarity in moments of complexity and momentum.
In practice you will:
• Build and maintain a strong network of national, international and trade journalists
• Manage the press inbox and respond to media requests with speed and care
• Proactively identify news angles and develop press releases, articles and Q and A’s
• Prepare spokespeople with clear key messages and speaking notes
• Monitor media coverage and translate opportunities into strong content for our own channels
You move confidently between the news of the day and long term storytelling. You understand political and societal sensitivities and know how to act with sound judgement.
YOUR WORKPLACE
You become member of the corporate communications team, as part of the new department Stakeholders & Sustainability. Together with other communications, public affairs and sustainability experts, you contribute to building this new department and become a strong ambassador for Van Oord.
You are a communications professional with ambition. You combine sharp judgement with courage and curiosity. You enjoy being visible, building relationships and taking initiative.
You bring:
• At least 3 years of experience in communications with a strong focus on media relations
• A bachelor or university degree level of thinking and working
• Excellent writing skills in Dutch and English
• The confidence to build relationships with journalists and stay close to your audience
• Affinity with maritime infrastructure, energy transition and climate adaptation
You switch smoothly between reactive press questions and proactive storytelling. You are politically and socially aware, entrepreneurial in your approach and a true team player who strengthens the people around you.
In this role you step into a treasure chest of meaningful stories and become a visible ambassador of a company that represents Dutch maritime excellence worldwide.
Additionally, we offer you:
• A salary that matches your responsibilities and experience
• Attractive travel allowance (€0.31 per km) and home working allowance (€2.45 per day)
• 32 holidays (of which a maximum of 7 are collective)
• Variable bonus
• Attractive pension scheme
• Option for collective health insurance (Van Oord pays for your supplementary package)
• Extensive development opportunities, including a comprehensive online academy via Goodhabitz
• Communities to join, such as Young Van Oord, Van Oord Women, and the Van Oord staff association
• Various events and sports activities, such as skiing, sailing weekends, cycling, and motorcycling
