Cadetship January 2027

Working on board at one of our vessels gives you more than practical experience. You become a full member of the crew from day one. You apply your maritime knowledge in a real working environment.

THE POSITION

Working on board one of our vessels means learning from experienced colleagues while contributing to real projects around the world. During your cadetship, you get the space to develop as a professional and become a full member of the crew. You take responsibility and work independently while receiving support from an experienced mentor. You work with colleagues from different nationalities and with different levels of experience and education. This gives you a valuable international experience and a clear view of life and work at sea. Your contribution helps Van Oord build on its maritime expertise, and your proactive approach helps you make the most of your cadetship.

YOUR IMPACT

Your cadetship gives you the chance to turn the knowledge from your maritime education into practical experience on board. You may develop towards a role in dredging or offshore, work on deck or gain experience in the engine room. You will see how a large international crew works together and how your contribution supports major maritime projects. You have the freedom to take initiative while your mentor helps you grow. During your cadetship, you will contribute to work that helps build the future together. You will have the opportunity to:

  • Apply your maritime knowledge in a real working environment on board

  • Work with an international crew on leading maritime projects
  • Explore your own direction, from dredging to deck or engine room work


Your workplace

You will work on board one of Van Oord's vessels and experience what it means to be part of an international crew. You will learn how teamwork, trust and responsibility come together at sea. 

Van Oord is a Dutch maritime contractor with extensive international experience in dredging, offshore and offshore wind. We combine engineering expertise with practical knowledge to build offshore wind farms, prepare seabeds and create new land for commercial and public projects. Together, we work on projects with a lasting impact.

ABOUT YOU

You are studying at a maritime academy and want to turn your theoretical knowledge into practical experience. You take responsibility for your work and are ready to spend an extended period on board. You are flexible, able to stay calm under pressure and willing to take initiative. You are also ready to work with an international crew and develop your skills in practice. For this cadetship, you bring:

  • You are studying at aDutchmaritime academy
  • You are willing to spend a period of 150 days away from home
  • You are flexible,responsible and able to work well under pressure
  • You are available from the end of January until summer
  • You have a good command of English and Dutch

WE OFFER

This cadetship gives you the opportunity to develop your maritime skills while working on Van Oord vessels around the world. You receive a cadetship allowance of €425 and get the support and space you need to develop your skills at sea.

  • Travel and accommodation are arranged by Van Oord and the costs are covered 
  • Flexibility, with enough time to complete your school assignments
  • Communities to join, such as Young Van Oord, Van Oord Women, and the Van Oord staff association

  • In the week of 5 October, we will let you know if you are selected for our selection day.
  • On 30 October,the selection day will take place at our office in Rotterdam (keep this day available in your agenda).
  • In the week of 2 November, we will let you know if you are selected for our Cadetship.
