2nd Officer Offshore

At Van Oord, you won't just be sailing from A to B. You'll work on board state-of-the-art offshore vessels operating complex projects around the world. As a 2nd Officer, you will play an important role in maintaining safe vessel operations while building the experience and competence needed to develop towards future ranks.

THE POSITION

As a 2nd Officer you manage navigational and deck activities during your watch. You are a member of the crew and ensure safe and efficient vessel handling in line with the rules and regulations and our high safety standards. Working closely with your team, you will gain valuable experience on internationally operating vessels while further developing your professional and leadership skills.

YOUR IMPACT

As a 2nd Officer, you contribute to safe and efficient offshore operations by maintaining situational awareness and resolving routine operational issues during your watch. Through accurate record keeping, inspections and clear communication, according the rules and regulations. Your responsibilities include:

  • Managing navigational watchkeeping duties and bridge administration;
  • Focus on proactive risk identification and route monitoring; 
  • Integration of mission equipment operations;
  • Oversee operational activities ensuring tasks are carried out safely and according to plan;
  • Support the development of less experienced deck crew members.

ABOUT YOU

You are reliable, committed to safety, and motivated to build a long-term maritime career. You communicate effectively, work well within a team, and stay alert to what is happening around you. In addition, you have:

  • A Certificate of Competency (CoC) as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch (OICNW) or higher;
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience as 2nd Officer on offshore vessels;
  • Valid STCW certification, for 2nd Officer;
  • Experience with voyage planning, navigational watchkeeping and electronic navigation systems;
  • Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
