2nd Engineer

THE POSITION

We are looking for 2nd Engineers with a passion for technology to join our fleet. At Van Oord, you work according to a sailing schedule of 5 weeks, ensuring a good work-life balance. Step aboard our modern fleet, with vessels such as a trailing suction hopper dredger, cutter suction dredger, fallpipe vessel, stationary cutter suction dredger, or a stone dumper.

YOUR IMPACT

As a 2nd Engineer, you are responsible for the condition and maintenance of the technical installations on board the assigned vessel. You work in a 12-hour shift rotation and report to the Chief Engineer to maintain and optimize the technical systems on board. When working as a Day-Engineer, you will be responsible for preparing, planning, and executing specific maintenance projects. 

  • Maintain, optimize, and improve the engine room and technical systems in close cooperation with the Chief Engineer.
  • Perform regular maintenance and repairs on technical installations to ensure optimal operation.
  • Instruct, organize, guide, and motivate assigned crew members.
  • Contribute to a positive work atmosphere and crew development.
  • Maintain ship administration according to Van Oord standards. And prepare, plan, and execute specific maintenance projects as a Day-Engineer.

ABOUT YOU

You have a maritime background, are independent, stress-resistant, and flexible. In addition, you have a good command of the English language and possess the right documents to work within the EU.

  • You hold a qualification as MarOff or Marine Engineer at MBO or HBO level.
  • You have at least three years of experience as a 2nd Engineer.
  • You possess specific knowledge depending on the vessel you are assigned to (such as ROVs, offshore cranes, cable-laying systems, dredging equipment, or LNG as fuel).
