Continuously dredging and manoeuvring on one of the most modern ships in the Van Oord fleet. On a small ship with a small crew and a very active bridge. This is you as a 2nd mate on our cutting edge water injection vessels like Maas and Mersey.

THE POSITION

As a 2nd Offer on our Water Injection Dredgers you will simultaneously manoeuvre and dredge in busy traffic. You do this 100% solo. You are a positive and active part of a 5-person crew.

Together with the Master and the Chief Officer, you are responsible for actively dredging and manoeuvring in ports, shipping channels and around jetties. You are working alone on the bridge, constantly active with two azimuth thrusters, the water injection jet bar and the survey images.

Of course we cannot forget safety, environmental regulations on board and the maintenance of safety equipment (ISM & ISPS). These are very important to Van Oord and you ensure that our high safety standards are met.

YOUR IMPACT

The 2nd Officer is responsible for manoeuvring and dredging together with the Captain and the Chief Officer on a rotation;

The crew as a whole is responsible for cooking, cleaning and keeping the ship tidy;
Sailing in a safe, maritime correct/responsible and environmentally friendly manner;
The focus lies on optimizing the production and continuity of the ship.
You will consult with and advise the Captain and First Mate daily about methods to optimize the production process.

ABOUT YOU

You are in possession of experience in manoeuvring a small ship in a high traffic environment and have extensive experience with azimuth thrusters.
Further requirements relating to STCW courses apply as 2nd Officer (II/4) and in addition to statutory obligations,
the 2nd Mate will be required to complete all recommended Van Oord training.
Working internationally is no problem for you, as our activities take place worldwide.
This also allows you to communicate at an accurate professional level in the English language.
