Senior Werkvoorbereider

Would you like to lead tenders and projects where land and water meet? You’ll work at the intersection of design, execution and commercial activities. Together with your colleagues, you’ll shape solutions for complex projects in the Netherlands and sometimes in neighbouring countries. Your work has a direct impact on how these projects take shape. You’ll have the freedom to take ownership and make decisions. Ready to build the future together?

THE POSITION

As a Senior Civil Engineering Work Preparation Engineer you play a key role in the preparation and realization of complex Dike Reinforcement and Infrastructure projects. You are involved from the tender phase through to execution and prepare the technical, operational, logistical, and contractual aspects.

In this role, the Senior Civil Engineering Work Preparation Engineer is the central link in our tenders and projects. With your overview and technical insight, you ensure optimal working methods and sequencing of the works, planning, and execution. You connect design, execution, the surrounding environment, and partners, and together you deliver innovative and feasible solutions that truly make a difference.

You work within an integrated project team and report to the Technical Manager. Together with colleagues such as the Construction Manager, Design Leads, Superintendents and Stakeholder Manager, you contribute to the successful and sustainable realization of large-scale projects such as dike reinforcement projects, nature-friendly riverbanks, and Room for the River projects. In this way, you help build a safe and sustainable living environment for future generations.

YOUR IMPACT

With your practical knowledge, hands-on mentality, and strong communication skills, you are the driving force behind a solid approach as a Senior Civil Engineering Work Preparation Engineer. You enable us to win tenders and successfully deliver projects. Always together with your team, partners, the client, and the surrounding environment. You know how to strike the right balance between technical content and process coordination, and you contribute to smart, sustainable solutions. In this way, you ensure that our projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in a future-proof manner.

Your key responsibilities:

  • You develop and describe execution methods and phasing plans, and translate project and client requirements into feasible technical solutions.
  • You coordinate execution preparation activities, including earthworks balance, logistics, permits, and requirements verification, and align with internal and external stakeholders.
  • You support tender and project management with schedules, work plans, and technical documentation, and monitor progress and quality.
  • You select and manage subcontractors and suppliers in collaboration with procurement and ensure smooth cooperation throughout the project.
  • You actively contribute to innovation and sustainability in project execution, for example through circular working methods, closed earthworks balances, and Zero Mission Equipment.

Your working environment

You work in a dedicated team of 6 to 10 colleagues from various disciplines on tenders and projects. Depending on the scale of the assignment, the team expands with partners, enabling us to tackle every challenge together. The atmosphere is open and transparent: we easily reach out to one another and help where needed. New colleagues are naturally included in the collaboration. When assigning projects, we take your knowledge, preferences, and experience into account.

ABOUT YOU

You bring the winning mindset, creativity, and flexibility needed to drive tender success and deliver outstanding project outcomes. With extensive experience in civil engineering and infrastructure, you are capable of leading complex projects, motivating and inspiring teams, and maintaining strong communication with all stakeholders. You combine technical expertise with a pragmatic and results-driven approach, enabling tender teams to perform at their best. In addition, you bring:

  • A completed bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience as a Site Manager or Work Preparation Engineer in the civil engineering and infrastructure sector, preferably on HWBP/KRW projects (dike reinforcement, earthworks, and/or infrastructure projects).
  • Strong knowledge of contract types such as RAW and UAV-GC, as well as planning software (Primavera/MS Project) and 3D/BIM models.
  • Willingness to travel internationally on occasion when required.
  • Excellent command of both Dutch and English.

WE OFFER

We offer you a position in which you will have an important contribution to our mission 'building a better world for future generations'. In addition, we offer you:

  • A salary that matches your responsibilities and experience;
  • Travel allowance (€0.31 per km) and home office allowance (€2,45 per day);
  • 32 leave days per year;
  • Variable bonus;
  • Pension scheme;
  • Collective health insurance (optional);
  • Flexible working from home policy, 2 days a week when working on a full-time basis;
  • Extensive learning and (personal) development possibilities, including a wide range of online courses via Goodhabitz;
  • You can join communities, like Young Van Oord, Van Oord Women and the Van Oord staff association;
  • We organise several (sport) events, e.g. winter sport, weekend of sailing, cycling and a motorcycle tour.
