THE POSITION

As Legal Counsel, you will play a key role in supporting our Procurement and Supply Chain teams, with a focus on Indirect Procurement (Non-Product Related categories such as IT (hardware, software and AI services), consultant’s services, temporary labour, travel, and facilities). You will advise on, draft, and negotiate a variety of complex contracts, help shape procurement policy, and ensure compliance with general procurement legislation.

You’ll work closely with category managers and legal colleagues, acting as a trusted advisor across the business. You will also help enhance the legal function’s capabilities through knowledge sharing, standardisation, and governance improvements.

YOUR IMPACT

Provide end-to-end legal support for Van Oord's procurement and supply chain operations.
Draft, negotiate, and review supply and subcontractor agreements in collaboration with category management.
Lead negotiations on framework and service-level agreements across various indirect procurement categories.
Support internal audits, manage legal disputes and coordinate with external legal counsel when necessary.
Contribute to the improvement of contract templates, procurement governance and legal know-how within the team.

ABOUT YOU

Fully qualified lawyer in The Netherlands.
5–10 years of legal experience, ideally a mix of private practice and in-house legal counsel within the construction and/or maritime sectors.
Proven experience in IT, labour, and other indirect procurement contracts.
Familiarity with international contracting, cross border transactions and different legal jurisdictions.
Strong knowledge of sustainability, ESG legislation (e.g. CSRD, CBAM) and ability to translate it into enforceable contract terms.
Excellent command of English (spoken and written), with the ability to independently draft complex legal documents.
Strong negotiation, drafting, and stakeholder management skills.
Proactive, pragmatic, and solution-oriented mindset.
