HR Technology Solution Architect

As HR technology solution architect, you act as business analyst for HR with proficiency in HR systems and business processes.

The position

Van Oord is seeking a HR technology solution architect to help build and maintain our Workday ecosystem. We are lucky to be in a place where we can shape a wide range of system functionalities and corresponding implementation roadmap. This roadmap directly impacts the ability of the business to operate and grow internationally.

Workday is implemented as cornerstone for the digital HR transformation of Van Oord. As part of this transformation the complete landscape, processes and ways of working will be redesigned.

Your responsibilities 

Your responsibilities include overseeing the dependencies across (HR) systems in relation to workforce planning, crew planning, asset management and payroll. How do we make our processes more efficient for Van Oord, by leveraging smart HR tools?

Furthermore you:

  • Develop and support Workday system functionality which includes design, configuration, testing and implementation from initiation to completion;
  • Oversee dependencies of our functional and technical Workday system functionality and other systems like the planning, asset management and ERP system(s); 
  • Navigate the organization in a complex landscape including resource planning, crew management, supported by solid HR process design;
  • Connect with architects on best practices, standards and IT strategy;
  • Document key processes and configuration for reference to ensure consistency;
  • Effectively prioritizes workload comprised of both transactional and project-based tasks;
  • Understands key business processes and recommends solutions to drive further optimization of Workday while improving and eliminating manual processes;
  • Build strong partnerships and collaborate with cross-functional global/virtual teams and business partners.


Your workplace:

Your role extends beyond the HR Technology department of Van Oord – you will engage in crucial conversations, and immerse yourself in the processes of connecting finance, ship management and IT departments of our maritime organization.

The HR Technology team consists of approximately 7 colleagues, responsible to manage our digital HR tools and roadmap in terms of maintenance and improvements. Each of them expertise in a wide variety of tools, processes and (Workday) modules. You will report to the HR technology manager. The HR Technology team is part of the HR Operations team, where also our HR Services hubs are part of. We’re closely collaborating with our HR in Business advisory team and Centers of Expertise.

Job requirements

In our quest for a new HR technology solution architect to join our team, we are looking for an HR/IT professional who is a navigator, approachable and both action- and service-oriented, ready to steer through the challenges of the maritime industry. Your ability to uncover the 'question behind the question' is your compass, showcasing your intuitive understanding of human dynamics. Balancing sensitivity with resilience, you're not afraid to navigate the waters of difficult conversations. Embracing a roll-up-sleeves mentality, you recognize that success often requires hands-on dedication.  

Your Credentials:

  • Bachelor degree in HR, business, IT/IS, MIS, or a related field strongly preferred or applicable experience also considered;
  • 5+ years configuration and hands-on Workday experience with proficiency in multiple Workday products; 
  • Excellent collaboration, influencing, project management and problem resolution skills;
  • Analytical mindset with a strong ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve system issues;
  • Highly flexible, self-directed, self-motivated and adapts easily to a rapidly changing environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously;
  • Solid teamworking skills and ability collaborate across teams in a fast-paced, deadline intensive environment while accurately providing attention to detail;
  • Capable of connecting the dots between processes and systems;
  • Must be able to maintain high levels of confidentiality and understand and maintain HR data security;
  • Preferable a base knowledge of Dutch legislation and regulations;
  • Excellent command of English, both spoken and written.
