Global Payroll Officer

The position

Within our Finance and Control department resides the Global Financial Shared Service Center (GFSSC). The primary aim of our GFSSC is to provide efficient and consistent centralized accounting and payroll services to projects, Business Units, and staff departments within Van Oord. The GFSSC comprises six sub-teams, with the majority focusing on accounting tasks. These sub-teams operate in both Rotterdam and Dubai. 

Your impact 

As a Senior Payroll Officer, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating and onboarding our 26 international payrolls. Our team is currently undergoing a transition, implementing PwC’s Global Payroll solution and integrating various decentralized payrolls. Your expertise in upstream (e.g., Workday) and downstream (e.g., IFS) payroll systems, along with a deep interest in system functionalities, will be crucial. You will also represent the Global Payroll Manager in various transition programs that Van Oord is navigating.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing and managing multiple payrolls, including preparation and post-payroll activities;
  • Continuously seeking improvements to enhance our payroll practices and achieve the highest level of operational excellence;
  • Proactively collaborating with upstream and downstream teams to drive cross-departmental payroll enhancements;
  • Participating in payroll-related transition programs at Van Oord;
  • Leading the integration of decentralized payroll practices onto the Global Payroll Platform;
  • Partnering with payroll professionals from PwC and AFAS to optimize procedures and systems;
  • Leading the integration of decentralized payroll practices onto the Global Payroll Platform;

Your workplace

Based at our head office in Rotterdam, you’ll enjoy a scenic view of the Maas and have access to an in-office gym to start or end your day. While we support flexible working, we encourage you to be present in the office to fully engage with your team. The GFSSC, composed of 68 people from 13 different nationalities, offers a supportive environment with a dedicated buddy system to help you settle in. As the GFSSC continues to expand, your contributions will be key to our ongoing growth.

About you

You thrive in a team in transition and excel at executing seamless payroll runs. You are also adept at collaborating across various teams and initiating (cross-)departmental improvements. Additionally, you should have:

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with at least 5 years of experience in an international project environment.
  • A qualification in practical wage and salary administration, along with professional payroll services expertise.
  • Preferably, a Lean Management Green Belt or a willingness to pursue this certification.
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written, with additional languages being an advantage.
