2nd Engineer Offshore

THE POSITION

As a 2nd Engineer, you are responsible for the condition and maintenance of the technical installations on board our offshore installation vessels. You work on vessels such as the Nexus, Calypso and Aeolus. You work in a 12 hour rotation and report to the Chief Engineer. Together, you maintain and optimise the technical systems on board. You help keep the vessel safe, reliable and ready for its next offshore operation. Your work starts with strong technical performance, and your impact reaches far beyond the engine room.

YOUR IMPACT

As a 2nd Engineer, you prepare, plan and execute specific maintenance projects. You work closely with the Chief Engineer to keep the engine room and technical systems in strong condition. You also guide and support assigned crew members during their work. Your knowledge helps the team solve technical challenges with confidence. You contribute to a positive working atmosphere and the development of the crew. In this role, your work directly supports the safe and reliable execution of offshore projects worldwide.


Your responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining, optimising and improving the engine room and technical systems in close collaboration with the Chief Engineer
  • Carrying out regular maintenance and repairs on technical installations to ensure optimal performance
  • Instructing, organising, supervising and motivating assigned crew members
  • Maintaining ship administration in accordance with Van Oord standards
  • Preparing, planning and executing specific maintenance projects as a Day Engineer

ABOUT YOU

You have a background in the maritime sector and can work independently. You stay focused when the work demands quick and careful decisions. You communicate clearly with colleagues and have a good command of English. You have the qualifications and documents needed for the role and to work within the EU. You bring technical knowledge that helps the crew keep the vessel performing at its best.


Furthermore, you have:

  • A qualification as MarOff or Marine Engineer at MBO or HBO level
  • At least three years of experience as a 2nd Engineer on vessels with DP or heavy lift and installation operations
  • Specific knowledge and experience with offshore installation vessels
  • A DP Maintenance Certificate and the required STCW documents
