Senior Legal Counsel

Your responsibilities

  • Providing full legal support to the procurement activities of all staff departments of the group;
  • Drafting and negotiating contracts and supply agreements in collaboration with Category Management, including framework agreements and participating in preparing invitations to tender; 
  • Supporting your commercial, finance and procurement colleagues;   
  • Contributing to the development and implementation, and maintaining a knowledge base, of standard sub-contracts, supply agreements, company policies and other procedures with contracting or legal implications;  
  • Advising on-going subcontract/supply issues minimising the risk and maximising the return to Van Oord;  
  • Handling legal disputes in cooperation with senior management, the project team and where necessary with external counsel. 

Job requirements

We expect you to be a pro-active, self-confident, constructive and creative advisor, who looks for solutions, values teamwork and can put things in perspective. The ideal candidate is capable of translating complex legal content to a business level. Furthermore, it's important that you:

  • Are a fully qualified lawyer in a relevant jurisdiction, preferably with a practising certificate; 
  • Have at least five to ten years working experience, preferably a mix of private practice/in-house in construction, offshore oil and gas, (offshore) renewable and/or maritime industry; 
  • Have experience with IT, temporarily labour, energy  contracts; 
  • Have experience with both contracts governed by Dutch- and English- or other common law; 
  • Have experience with current sustainability and ESG legislation and knows how to implement this in contracts and general conditions;
  • Are fluent in English. It is crucial that you can effectively draft legal documents unassisted in English; 
  • Have well-developed negotiating and drafting skills.
