The position

As the HR Director for the Business Unit (BU) Dredging and Infra (DRI), you have significant influence as a member of both the Human Resources Leadership team (HRLT) and the DRI leadership team. Your role involves shaping and executing the people strategy for the BU, driving business outcomes, and partnering closely with the managing director and Leadership team (LT) on strategic priorities. With a focus on HR projects and country responsibilities, you're instrumental in creating sustainable HR solutions and providing leadership to a global HR team. This key position offers the opportunity to impact organizational culture, talent management, and organizational effectiveness in a global scale. 

As HR Director, you partner with the BU to influence the people and talent agenda to drive business outcomes and goals. You own the People Strategy for the BU and are the primary contact point in HR for the managing director of the BU and the members of the LT. This senior leadership position plays a pivotal role in the success of the BU and HR. 

You partner with the managing director and the LT on strategic business and people priorities including leadership, development, succession planning, talent management, coaching, team composition, performance, employee engagement, organizational effectiveness and change management. 

You drive the adoption of the HR operating model within the business, ensuring LT members feel they are well supported by the global HR Function including the HR Centres of Expertise (CoEs). You advise and coach leaders on driving the organizational values and culture. You include HR data & people analytics in decision-making processes. You work closely with the CoEs, Chief People Office (CPO) and with the other HR Directors, HR Business Partners and HR Managers to promote collaboration across functions and cross-pollination of ideas and knowledge-sharing. 

YOUR WORKPLACE

Van Oord operates via two Business Units: “Dredging & Infra (DRI)” and “Offshore Energy”. You are the HR Director for the BU DRI, consisting of 850 employees. 

Dredging is Van Oord’s signature talent, one that they have perfected continuously since their business was founded. Their dredging capabilities include land reclamation, coastal protection and expanding ports and waterways. Van Oord maintains that position throughout the world, thanks to their ingenious people, the best dredging equipment and operational experience, supported by their local branches. Van Oord further designs and constructs large and complex dredging and infra projects worldwide, often as a main contractor. The focus of infra projects has been mainly on the Netherlands whereby Van Oord is looking to expand this portfolio internationally. The Business Unit Dredging & Infra is Van Oord’s strong pillar to enhance climate adaptation.

This role is aligned with the BU DRI, member of the HRLT and member of the DRI LT. You are co-responsible for leading the BU and designing as well as executing the overall strategy of HR and of the BU. You own the People Strategy for the BU and are the primary contact point in HR for the managing director of the BU and the members of the LT. In this role your report to the CPO and to the managing director BU DRI. 

Your responsibilities

  • You have an executive role in the BU leadership team, being co-responsible for steering the BU as a whole from a long-term/strategic and global perspective, not limited to the HR agenda.
  • You shape and drive the corporate People Strategy with a business perspective and global mindset. Working/collaborating with the HRLT on the People Strategy and the annual HR/people plan. 
  • You shape and deliver the People Strategy and HR/people plan in the BU DRI, using a.o, the Managers Information Dashboard. Providing leadership on business related HR projects and is country responsible from an HR Business partner perspective for a number of countries, e.g. UAE, Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore. 
  • You are responsible for developing HR/people plans for the BU DRI. Ensuring HR solutions are sustainable and relevant for the BU. Advising and collaborating on the design and implementation of HR programs / projects, ensuring programs/projects are relevant to the business supported.
  • You actively consult and provide solutions related to workforce, employee engagement, performance management, retention, sickness management, talent and organizational culture to senior business leaders. 
  • You provide leadership and coaching to senior business leaders and own HR team members. 
  • You align the structure of the organization with its objectives via organizational design. Partnering with the HR team to drive and contribute to the continuous improvement of people processes, tools, systems and practices 

Job requirements

As an experienced HR Director, you are comfortable and used to voice your opinion and to constructively challenge others. Your driven by a growth mindset and a commitment to feedback.   • You are an experienced HR Director and have gained your experience in a matrix organisation.
  • You have a bachelor’s degree, preferably specialised in HRM or occupational & organisational psychology;
  • You are fluent in English, other language skills do help;
