Graduation internship Geowall

Are you looking for a unique challenge where you can apply your knowledge and creativity in civil and hydraulic engineering? The GEOWALL Team is offering an exciting graduation assignment focused on the development of a new, sustainable revetment stone.

THE POSITION

Are you looking for a unique challenge where you can apply your knowledge and creativity in civil and hydraulic engineering? The GEOWALL Team is offering an exciting graduation assignment focused on the development of a new, sustainable revetment stone. In this role, you’ll design and refine a product that meets high technical standards and significantly advances sustainability and efficiency in hydraulic engineering. This is an opportunity to work on a real-world solution with the potential to reshape dyke reinforcement projects across the Netherlands.

YOUR IMPACT

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in transforming GEOWALL’s revetment stone into a market-ready product that competes with traditional concrete solutions. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Market Analysis: Conduct research on existing revetment stones, evaluating their shape, structure, and functionality. Your goal is to identify and integrate unique design elements that differentiate GEOWALL’s product.
  • Design Development: Define and implement design criteria that enhance the stone’s functionality, durability, and sustainability. You’ll explore different shapes, surface profiles, and structural features, considering factors like holes, ridges, and materials that improve performance in hydraulic settings.
  • Production Optimization: Examine production methods to ensure technical feasibility, quality, and efficiency, including material density and pressing techniques specific to GEOWALL.
  • Supply Chain Analysis: Review the entire supply chain—from manufacturing to on-site placement. Your analysis will focus on handling, packaging, and installation to streamline the process.
  • Concept Testing: Develop and test various design concepts, evaluating them against technical requirements like lifespan, stability, and environmental resistance. You’ll have the chance to test your designs in industry-leading facilities, such as the Deltares laboratories.

Through this project, you’ll contribute directly to the development of an innovative product that advances GEOWALL’s technical goals and supports the sustainability and resilience of hydraulic structures.

ABOUT YOU

To thrive in this role, you should be a proactive student with a strong interest in sustainable design and engineering. Key qualities include:

  • You are pursuing a BSc or MSc in Civil, Mechanical, or Hydraulic Engineering.
  • You balance creativity with technical precision, always aiming to push design boundaries.
  • You are confident engaging with internal and external stakeholders, valuing feedback and diverse perspectives.
  • You are eager to learn, results-driven, and have strong communication skills.
  • You are an EU Citizen or have a valid study-work permit.
  • You have a very good command of the English language, both verbally and in writing. Dutch would be a pre.

WE OFFER YOU

We offer you a 5-6 month paid graduation assignment based at our headquarters in Rotterdam, starting in February/March. During this time, you’ll work alongside a young, dynamic team that is passionate about innovation and sustainability. Our team will provide hands-on guidance, sharing their expertise to help you grow and develop your skills. You’ll receive mentorship from experienced engineers and sustainable design experts, allowing you to make a meaningful impact in the hydraulic engineering sector.

Beyond the technical experience, you’ll be part of a vibrant professional community at Van Oord, where you’ll connect with other interns and young professionals. Through the Young Van Oord and Intern Community, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in various social and professional activities—such as excursions, workshops, lectures, sports events, and informal gatherings—designed to enrich your experience and expand your network.
