Are you the Cost Engineer Offshore Energy who will help make the energy transition work? Will you team up with us to draft winning bids to create a better world for future generations? If so, please apply for your new challenge.

Van Oord has a mission to drive the energy transition by engineering and constructing offshore wind farms and other energy transition projects. Offshore Wind is one of the fastest-growing green energy markets in Europe and across the globe. To retain our leading position and keep up with the influx of projects in the coming years, we want to grow the Cost Engineering team for our Offshore Energy business unit.

As a Cost Engineer Offshore Energy, you play a vital role in the tendering process for offshore projects. All disciplines, including engineering, procurement, legal, and commercial, come together in the estimating process that you drive during tenders. You safeguard the bid storyline and are the gatekeeper of integrality and quality of the multidisciplinary scope. Is drawing up these multidisciplinary budgets for complex offshore projects what gets you excited? If so, read on to find out what Van Oord has to offer.

Together with the tender team, you will be laying the foundations for successful offshore projects. Headed by the Tender Manager, you will start a new tender by going through all project documentation and a tender kick-off. You will explore multiple solutions for the project and identify the best alternative in terms of price, risk, planning, and safety. When necessary, you will seek advice to ensure that you can provide the tender team with the best estimate in the time available. You will often deal with tight deadlines, so structured, goal-oriented work and excellent communication skills are essential in this role. This position is available in the Gorinchem, Netherlands office, the Hamburg, Germany office, and the Stokesley, United Kingdom office.

Your Responsibilities

  • Drive and support the decision-making process for the winning solution and bid basis in tenders.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments such as Engineering, Operations, and Ship Management to draw up an accurate and valid cost and time estimate.
  • Coordinate with our risk and planning specialists to strive for fully integrated project management.
  • Draw up as-built and project controls estimates and offer support during the implementation phase of a project.
  • Actively develop your expertise by staying informed on the latest developments in the market and identifying possible opportunities for Van Oord.

Job Requirements

As a successful candidate you are self-motivated, open, honest and hands-on. You are collaborative with the ability to work with different people across the team. You maintain structure with flexibility to take advantage of opportunities when they arise. You encourage debate of important issues and yet are decisive when the time comes. You put the team and company high and ensure a healthy work-life balance by managing expectations proactively. You are able to deal with stress from time to time and have the capacity to work methodically. You are curious and eager to understand the technical, financial, legal, and commercial basis of your work. Above all, you are a team player with excellent communication skills.

You also bring:

  • Bachelor or Master degree, preferably in a technical field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in making cost estimates or tender work for (marine) contractors.
  • Experience with Cleopatra software is a definite plus.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to live and work near one of our offices in Gorinchem, Hamburg or Stokesley.

We Offer You
A position in which you will make a significant contribution to our mission of 'building a better world for future generations'. In addition, we offer you:

  • A salary in line with your responsibilities and experience.
  • An attractive travel allowance (€0.31 per km) and home working allowance (€2.40 per day).
  • 32 holidays (of which a maximum of 7 are collective).
  • Variable bonus, depending on company results, among other things.
  • An attractive pension scheme.
  • Possibility of collective health insurance (Van Oord pays for your supplementary package).
  • Flexible home working arrangement; on a full-time basis, you can work from home for 2 days.
  • Extensive development opportunities, including a very comprehensive online academy via Goodhabitz.
  • Communities to join, such as: Young Van Oord, Van Oord Women, and the Van Oord staff association.
  • Various events and sports activities, including winter sports, sailing weekends, cycling, and motorcycling.
