'After completing my master's at TU Delft, I started looking for a job. I was searching for something where sustainability is high on the agenda, as that has always had my interest. In my role at Van Oord, I study the noise production during the installation of offshore wind turbines. And more importantly: how do we mitigate the noise so that we cause as little harm to the environment as possible?'
Not just in the office
For an offshore wind farm, you don’t stay in the office in
Rotterdam, do you? ‘I’ve only been working here for a few months, but I’ve
already spent a week in the North Sea, on board one of our vessels. There, I
conducted acoustic measurements, but I also saw how our offshore colleagues
work. It’s truly an art: every colleague has their own task and it is perfectly
organised. It’s great to see that it’s not just about efficiency and speed;
safety always has the highest priority here.’

During the interview, Aniruddha has been working at Van Oord for eight months. Has it been a good choice? 'I’ve had a great time here. I came in as a rookie, without any experience. All my colleagues are very friendly and helpful, and I get many great opportunities, like working offshore.
Also as an expat, working at Van Oord is very enjoyable: there are communities where you can meet new people, and a lot of knowledge and experience is exchanged. In my team, we work with 10 different nationalities, which brings a lot of different perspectives and ideas on how we approach things. Everyone is interested and open, and we learn a lot from each other.'

your search for a first job. Does Van Oord deliver on this promise? 'We
are very busy making our work more sustainable and responsible. We also
brainstorm about this: are we really doing well? We don’t want to make it look
better than it is, so are we on the right track? That is very important to me,
and I’m happy to be a part of it!'
