Superintendent Dredging UK

The Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day management of a project and for optimising the production process or other operational matters.

The position


Van Oord is offering a position as superintendent in our Water Injection dredging team in the UK. 

This unique role gives the opportunity to develop yourself and/or expand and broaden your knowledge within the dredging industry. 

In the role of superintendent, you will be responsible for the preparation, mobilisation, execution and de-mobilization of small scale dredging and harbour maintenance works around the UK, while taking care of project-specific requirements, safety and your team. You will work primarily at our project site locations around the country with various Van Oord and chartered vessels.


Your responsibilities

  • Be part of preparing the projects and seeing them through the execution to completion
  • Drawing up and follow up on documentation, such as method statements, work procedures and reports
  • Ensure that the project is executed as per the Project plans, in a safe and timely manner
  • Follow up and go through work instructions and safety requirements with the operational crew and/or teams;
  • Collaborate with the project team a vessel crews, coordinate and motivate them;
  • Coordinate and advice in the event of technical problems and challenges;
  • Liaise and act as a link between the vessel, client and external stakeholders on an operational level
  • Report to and liaise with project manager


Job requirements

Most of the time you will be working in a rotational schedule at one of our project locations or on board of our vessels. The projects vary in content from land reclamation and restoring beaches and shores to port and waterway development. When informing and involving the project team, crew, client and other stakeholders, your communication skills and drive are very useful. And thanks to your independency and pro activity, all challenges are solved as quickly as possible. Your decisiveness helps the team achieve an optimal result. Furthermore, for the role as a superintendent, you have:

  • Self-motivated individual who is capable of a high level of autonomy
  • An independent, practical, creative and driven personality who’s able to solve problems, dares to take decisions
  • A flexible attitude with regard to working, travel and time away from home on various schedules
  • Strong communication and social skills
  • Preferably experience within a relevant industry
  • Proficient in basic computer skills
  • A good command of the English language, spoken and written
  • Valid driving licence
  • Right to remain and work in UK

A highly varied working environment working on small project around the UK. Regular travel often working away from home during the week, but working from home when possible. We offer a 5:2 schedule working Monday – Friday, home at the weekends. In addition, we offer you:
