Diversity of projects

The position

As a Cost Engineer, your challenge will be to draw up long-term budgets for tenders for maintenance contracts. You look for the best solutions in the longer term, for example how to combine maintenance activities. You will have the scope to set up and organise budgeting systems based on the Dutch 'Standaard Systematiek Kostenramingen' (SSK). In doing so, you will add value to our customers' assets: by working together with the rest of the team to offer long-term certainty instead of short-term smartness.

Your workplace
As Cost Engineer Asset Management, you will work at Van Oord on tenders for wet infrastructure: waterways, coastal & shore works, ports, dikes, bridges & locks and pumping stations. Including the associated installations and with a positive impact on biodiversity. Examples include maintenance of the Afsluitdijk and floodplains of the Rhine branches. You are part of a team of other Cost Engineers and you will work specifically for our asset management organisation. This is a young, enthusiastic and growing organisation within Van Oord, including Maintenance Engineers, Project Leader, Tender Engineer and Maintenance Specialist. Together, you will work to further expand and professionalise the department.

Your responsibilities

  • Drawing up multi-year cost estimates for various tenders and additional work on current projects;
  • Collecting relevant information from the Maintenance Engineers, the purchasing department, suppliers, subcontractors and from the execution;
  • Translating this data into budgets with corresponding schedules and work descriptions.

Job requirements

You are an inquisitive Cost Engineer who would like to specialise in multi-year, multidisciplinary budgets (e.g. also wtb and automation). You enjoy looking further ahead and working in a planned way and can handle the time pressure that comes with a tender. You take knowledge and experience of the operation and translate this into good estimates. You do not take things at face value and ask critical questions so that you gain more and more insight into asset management. You can weigh up costs and benefits (technology) and have strong analytical and numerical skills. Do you also meet the following job requirements? Then we would like to receive your application for this vacancy.

  • You have a higher professional level (obtained through education or years of experience) and have a technical background, e.g. mechanical engineering, aerospace, civil engineering, etc.;
  • You have experience as a Calculator/Cost Engineer, which may certainly also be outside asset management;
  • You have affinity with, and are willing to learn about, preparing cost estimates for multi-year maintenance contracts;
  • You have an excellent command of the Dutch language and a good command of English (for communication with international Van Oord colleagues).

We offer

We are offering you a position in which you will make a significant contribution to our mission of 'building a better world for future generations' in an organisation that focuses on exclusive sections of the market. In addition, we offer you:

  • A salary that matches your responsibilities and experience;
  • 32 holiday days (of which max. 7 collective);
  • a variable bonus, depending on the company result among other things;
  • an attractive travel allowance (€ 0.31 per km) and home office allowance (€ 2 per day);
  • flexible home working arrangement; on a fulltime basis you can work 2 days from home;
  • plenty development opportunities, including a very extensive online academy of Goodhabitz;
  • an attractive pension scheme;
  • unlimited use of our fitness room at our head office in Rotterdam;
  • various communities to become a member of, such as: Young Van Oord, Van Oord Women and the Van Oord staff association;
  • various events and sports activities, such as winter sports, sailing weekends, cycling and motorbike riding;
  • option of collective health insurance (Van Oord pays for your supplementary package).
